Hi,

I’m trying do import products trough the Merchant Center CSV import and we had a file that was working a few weeks/months and now when I tried again the same file it is not working anymore.

The reported error is useless as you can see from the screenshot.

Product import error, Merchant Center

Guess there where some “under the hood changes” that destroy our old import file, and the logging is very bad for the Merchant Center import, for every case that fails it’s very hard to guess what’s wrong.

Hey Drazen,

Thanks for reaching out about this. We have been making some meaningful changes to our Import and export functionality, but I am not certain why you are seeing the error. I will pass along the suggested improvements to the error messaging to the team.  In the meantime, maybe review some of the suggestions below:

  1. Review Recent Changes:

    • Project Settings: Check if any project settings related to product types, attributes, or import configurations have been modified since the last successful import. Even seemingly minor changes can sometimes disrupt imports.
    • Product Types: Ensure that the product types referenced in your CSV file still exist and haven't been modified in a way that conflicts with your import data. Pay close attention to required attributes and their data types.
    • Attributes: Verify that all attributes used in your CSV file are still defined in your project and that their data types match your import data.
  2. Validate Your CSV Data:

    • Format and Structure: Double-check the CSV file's format, including delimiters, quoting, and line endings. Ensure it adheres to the required structure for commercetools imports.
    • Data Types: Carefully review the data types of each attribute in your CSV and ensure they match the expected types in your commercetools project. Type mismatches are a common cause of import errors.
    • Required Fields: Confirm that all required fields for your product types are present and populated in your CSV data. Missing required fields will definitely cause import failures.
    • Unique Values: If you're using unique attributes (e.g., SKUs, keys), ensure that the values in your CSV are indeed unique and don't conflict with existing products in your project.
  3. Test with a Smaller Sample: Create a smaller CSV file containing just a few representative products. Attempt to import this smaller file to isolate potential issues. If the smaller import succeeds, it suggests a problem within the larger dataset.

  4. Inspect Import Logs: Check if the Merchant Center provides any detailed import logs or error messages beyond the generic error you're seeing. These logs might offer more specific clues about the cause of the failure.  https://docs.commercetools.com/merchant-center/import-data#import-logs

  5. Contact commercetools Support: If you've exhausted the above steps and are still unable to pinpoint the issue, contact commercetools support. Provide them with the following information:

    • The problematic CSV file (or a representative sample).
    • The error message you're encountering.
    • Any relevant project settings or configurations.
    • Steps you've already taken to troubleshoot.

I hope this helps you and we appreciate your feedback!
