Order Editing in Merchant Center

Forum|alt.badge.img

Hi,

Is it possible to enable order editing in the Merchant Center?

The use case I am looking at here is that some of our orders require vetting - our Customer Service team opens an order and checks if the right part (we are in auto spare parts business) was selected by the customer. In case it does not the vehicle, they remove it and replace it with a different part (SKU).

I am researching an option to have this use case handled in Merchant Center - any thoughts anyone?

(for the sake of this discussion I would leave the payment element complexity)

Hi Andrzej

Order edits via Merchant Center are not available. You’d have to either build a custom app or use APIs to perform order edits. Below are some limitations w.r.t. the order edits;

  1. Order edits have a limit of 100K order edits per project, so you’d need to delete them after they are applied to an order or delete them if they no longer need to be applied.  This could become a challenge if you frequently make order edits
  2. Order edits are only allowed on orders where inventory mode is none
  3. If you perform order edits, you’d need to recalculate taxes, shipping tax etc. as the price may have impacted the change

Alternatively, you can explore below as well;

  1. If the orders are created in commercetools but then sent to OMS or WMS/ERP for fulfillment and further processing, they could be edited in those systems
  2. Consider creating orders after review of the parts are done. You can use cart freeze option where the carts could be frozen and sent for review. Once the material and parts are verified then you can create the order so that these modifications won’t be needed after the order is placed

Let us know what do you think about above and share further insights if this doesn’t help.

I don’t think you can do this on MC without creating a custom application. You can change order statuses, custom fields or create returns, but not change the line items. This would require an Order Edit.

We can update the quantities in line item via OrderEdit. Correct?

Yes, you should be able to change quantities via order edit, but be aware that this could potentially change tax and shipping, so you would need to recalculate them as well.

Hi,

Thank you all for the replies.

@hetvim - thanks for pointing me to the freeze cart feature - certainly worth looking at and I was not aware of it. I am looking at options at OMS also in parallel.

Thanks!
